The Missoula Marathon was created by a passionate group of local runners with a simple vision: to share the beauty, hospitality, and spirit of Missoula with runners from around the world. What began as a community race has grown into one of the country’s premier destination marathons, welcoming participants from all 50 states and more than a dozen countries each year.

 

Set against the backdrop of western Montana’s mountains, rivers, and open skies, the Missoula Marathon Weekend of Events offers more than a fast, scenic courses—it provides an unforgettable weekend experience. Visitors discover a vibrant downtown filled with locally owned restaurants, breweries, coffee shops, galleries, and live music, along with miles of riverfront trails, nearby hiking, floating, fishing, and endless opportunities to explore the surrounding landscape.

 

Known for its warm community spirit and exceptional volunteer support, the Missoula Marathon has earned national recognition as one of America’s favorite races. It has been named the Best Marathon in the U.S. by Runner’s World readers and twice by The BibRave 100, while also earning accolades from Runner’s World as a Top Marathon for Back-of-the-Packers and a Top 10 Bucket List Marathon.

“This race is always incredible. The energy from staff, volunteers, runners, and the community is amazing. Race production is always spot on, no glitches. Beautiful race expo in the heart of downtown. The race course itself is great, mostly flat, and beautiful. When you get into the residential areas, many members of the community come out to cheer everyone on, it really is an incredible feeling. They offer bag check because it’s a point to point race that runs very smooth. After 5 years, I’ve never ran into any problems at this race. Oh, the medals were gorgeous as usual. Way to go Missoula Marathon.”
